Sunday Day 1

Well, we made it. We had a very uneventful plane ride. We met up with the Indiana team at Logan and then headed to Amsterdam and then from there, we went on to Nairobi. What an amazing journey this has been so far. We spent the morning in church service which lasted about 3 hours or so. Pastor Ron from Crossway and Pastor Dan from White River Church in Noblesville Indiana, were both involved with the child dedication a the service. What an amazing site! After service was over, we had lunch (mystery meat :) ) and then went on to tour the Mathare village I. We were prepared in our meetings for what we would see, but to actually visit it is a totally different story. The smell was indescribable. No human being should live that way. Nothing even comes close to that smell. Kids were drinking water filled with maggots. Little kids were playing in dirty, stinky water. We visited a mom and her daughter, who is a student at the Hope Center Pagani, and the mother asked us to pray for her family who is being displaced in Central Kenya. She didn't ask us to pray for her, but her family. Astounding! This is the way of life for these people. We are there to do what we can to help the next generation, and the next. We are going to bring them hope. It is hope that gets them through each day. What you see numbs you at first, to think that a human actually lives like this. Then anger fills you. Then sadness for the families. Tomorrow we begin helping them. The emotions will come. We will support and pray for each other. We ask that you continue to pray for us. This will be a long journey for all of us and as we know from today, it will be an emotional one.
Asante.
